Today's student union resembles a town
square, featuring entertainment, food
service, meeting and conference facilities,
study areas, and a host of other student
services. The student union has become a
key marketing tool in attracting students,
community and corporate support.

In this context, Penn State began major
expansion of its Hetzel Union Building.
The project included a new 425-seat
digital theater, a state-of-the-art videowall
in the main lobby and displays at key
high-traffic points that provide information
and entertainment, digital lounges in
common areas where students connect to
the university's network, and historic
restoration of its 13,000 sq. ft. multi-
purpose ballroom.
