When The Sextant Group announced it was joining forces with NV5 Global, Inc. (Nasdaq: NVEE), there were understandably a lot of questions.

What does NV5 do?

NV5 provides a wide range of engineering and consulting solutions to public and private sector clients in markets such as corporate, energy, transportation, government, hospitality, healthcare and education. The company helps clients plan, design, build, test, certify, and operate projects that improve the communities where we live and work.

This is a company that has learned from past experience how to do mergers better. Their diverse offerings help organizations like us grow by expanding services to existing clients, realizing synergy among disciplines, and creating better career opportunities for staff. History shows that this acquisition will follow suit, and with it comes great opportunities for you.

How will The Sextant Group fit into NV5?

Be assured, The Sextant Group is not going away. For the last 24 years, The Sextant Group has provided independent consulting services in audiovisual, information technology, security, acoustics and technical lighting for higher education, corporate, healthcare and other clients – and it will continue to do so. As we join NV5’s Buildings and Technology group, the new partnership will enhance The Sextant Group’s ability to provide clients with a broader range of services from a single entity.

  • The Sextant Group name will remain the same, eventually adding “An NV5 Company” to our identity.
  • Contracts will remain with The Sextant Group. NV5 purchased the stock of the corporation, but the legal entity remains comfortably in place.
  • Project management will remain the same.
  • Project staffing will remain the same (in fact, we’re growing! You know any top-notch AV, IT, or acoustical consultants you’d recommend?
  • The people you know and trust will continue to be your contacts and work with you on projects.

This fusion enhances each of our capabilities to serve you better with Strategic Technology Planning, Audiovisual and Broadcast Systems Design, Voice/Data/Video Telecommunications Networking, Security Systems Design, Architectural Acoustics, Noise & Vibration Control, Technical Lighting Design, Theatre Technology, Healthcare Technology, Faculty Support, and Control System Software Development.

Dickerson Wright PE, Chairman and CEO of NV5, said, “The acquisition of The Sextant Group positions NV5 as a national leader in building technologies. The company is a strategic fit with our fast-growing technology group and significantly differentiates our MEP design offerings to our national and international clients, specifically in the high education, hospitality, corporate, civic and healthcare market sectors. With The Sextant Group’s technology capabilities, NV5 can play an increasingly important role in the design or retrofit of ‘smart’ buildings.”

John Cook, Vice President of The Sextant Group, said “Joining NV5 is a natural progression in the growth of our firm. We have been impressed with NV5’s growth and market sector positioning over the past few years and are excited to be able to integrate our team of experienced and energetic technology specialists with the NV5 platform.”

And what about President and CEO Mark Valenti?

Mark ValentiEven though our founder and friend Mark Valenti has eventual retirement in his sights, he continues to be a part of The Sextant Group family – for now. He says “We are looking forward to our future with NV5 with great optimism. This acquisition brings tremendous opportunities and benefits for our staff and clients. NV5 shares our commitment to discovery, innovation, impact and process.”

At some point, Mark will transition out of the firm, but he is still with us, offering project continuity and leadership from an Emeritus perch for some time to come.
